新年伊始,Vanguard画廊联合零时艺术中心共同推出廖斐最新个展《广延》。这次展览是廖斐对于物的基础的再次考察,也是其“关于物质”主题的延续和反思。通过划线、折纸、搭建等简单手段,艺术家试图令物的清晰与不明的部分得以呈现。
此次展览将以装置、手稿、折纸及空间绘画等形式在Vanguard画廊和零时艺术中心两个空间里呈现。这是廖斐2017年开始的全新工作方式的一次初步展出。展览将于2018年2月3日开始,一直持续至3月31日。

“笛卡尔陷入了沉思。面对事物,语言不足以描述,甚至不可想象。反复斟酌,他终于落笔,写下了:广延。留白的主语被属性所替代,空缺的是主语之思?
莱布尼茨反复地做着0和1的游戏,依旧不愿断言,单子的世界是否是一次镜像的迷途知返?
‘人是物质,镜子是物质;镜子中的影像是物质,照镜子同样也是物质’,“只要存在或存在过,就是物质”。即使这样广义宽泛的界定,廖斐仍对物质抱有疑问。‘世界上如果没有完全孤立的事物,那么事物一定是联系的。事物是联系的话那么它们必然是一个整体。’这个来自胡塞尔的简单论证令艺术家感到轻巧的美感。物质恐怕远比我们所能想象的极限更加的轻盈。
一道穿过整个空间的光、一道蜿蜒地穿过海岸线的光。帕洛马尔在绝对均匀平滑的介质之镜中看到了自己。曲折行进的蛇试图接近一堵无法穿越的墙,空间如同涟漪一般波动,在平滑与黏稠间反复变化。
十字路口的信号灯在闪烁,人们遵守交通信号、人们破坏交通规则,交通有条不紊地进行着,人流车辆顺畅通行。
在时间分叉的路口,瞬间是多少时间?原子钟在摆动,在如此的微小之镜,阿喀硫斯之重是否等价于乌龟?
斑马正在奔跑、跳跃,渡过死亡之河。年幼的鳄鱼在观察着斑马的移动,计算着最佳的出击时间。在出击的瞬间它犹豫了一下,似乎在思考什么。眼看着斑马将要越过它。小鳄鱼瞬间跃起咬住了斑马的后腿。在咬住的一瞬,它感到了出击的最佳时间,时间刻画在它身体深处。
帕洛马尔先生试图预测海浪的运动,又一次试图赶在下一个海浪之前,将它的曲面降低为近乎无限的直线。是否?是否!将自己变成一个图灵机。降低维度之后出现了错位、破面、形碎,然而直线是什么?直线无法定义。直是什么?一把无限的直尺是否能丈量无尽的海洋?
观测者,光线射入你的眼睛;时间之流,有如远处宇宙留下的温暖的纪念碑。无法看清面目的狙击手在祈祷之后将会扣下扳机,此刻他感到自己所处的位置是一个完全孤立的点。究竟是我们虚构了世界,还是世界虚构了我们?

以物质区分于精神的二元论是整个科学的认知系统一直以来得以建立的基础。出于好奇,艺术家重新考察了最初的二元论,却惊讶地发现,在《方法论》中笛卡尔所区分的并不是物质和精神,而是广延和精神。直到莱布尼茨时代人们依旧使用着“广延”。
这次展览是廖斐对于物的基础的再次考察,也是其“关于物质”主题的延续和反思。通过划线、折纸、搭建等简单手段,艺术家试图令物的清晰与不明的部分得以呈现。
关于艺术家

At the beginning of the New Year, Vanguard Gallery joins hands with 0 Art Center to present Liao Fei’s new solo exhibition, Res Extensa。 This exhibition serves as Liao Fei’s re-examination on foundation of matters, also extension and reflection on his About Matters series。 By using simple methods such as drawing lines, paper folding and building, the artist intends to present the clear and vague sides of matters。
This time, the exhibition will include installations, manuscripts, origami and dimensional paintings to present at both the gallery and the art center。 This is the preliminary presentation of Liao Fei’s works based on his new way of working that started from 2017。 The exhibition begins from February 3, 2018, and will run until March 31。

“排列生成”系列基本元素 Basic Elements of Permutation Generation
Leibniz repeatedly plays games about zero and one without willing to affirm that whether the unitary world has been the retracting from wrong path as of the mirror image。
‘Humans are matters。 Mirrors are matters。 Images in the mirror are matters。 Looking into the mirror is a matter’。‘If it exists or has existed, it is a matter’。 Liao Fei still has doubts about matters, though。 ‘If the world does not have any matter that is isolated, then matters must be connected。 If matters are connected, then they must be an integral whole’。This simple demonstration from Edmund Husserl makes the artist feel a sense of light beauty。 Matters might be even lighter than we could possibly imagine。
A beam of light that falls through the room。 A beam of light that goes beyond the seashore。 Palomar sees himself in the absolute uniformly smooth medium mirror。 A snake zigzags and tries to approach an impenetrable wall, and the space is waving like ripples and transforms repeatedly from smooth and sticky substances。
The traffic lights are flashing。 People follow the signals, and people break the traffic rules。 The traffic proceeds in an orderly manner。 Stream of pedestrians and automobiles is smooth。
In the intersection of time, how much time is an instant?
The zebra is running and jumping in order to go across the river of death。 A young crocodile is observing the zebra’s movement to calculate the best moment to attack。 By the moment of attack, it hesitates with some thoughts。 The zebra is nearly surmounting it。 In an instant, the little crocodile jumps and bites the zebra on its rear leg。 In that very moment, it comes up with the best time of attack。 Time carves deeply in its body。
Mr。 Palomar tries to foresee the movement of sea waves, and he again wants to reduce the curved surface to an infinite straight line。 Is it? Is it! To make oneself become a Turing Machine。 Following the reduction of dimension come dislocated, fractional, broken things。 What is straight line, though? A straight line cannot be defined。 What is straight? Is an infinite ruler able to measure the endless ocean?
For the observers, light beams shoot into your eyes, touch your skin and feel your space。 The sniper whose face cannot be seen clearly pulls the trigger after prayer。 At this moment, he feels himself in an absolute isolated point of location。 Is it that we fabricate the world or the world fabricates us? Streets are extending until lose boundary。
Two little lions are playing, throw each other on, bite and roll over。
The Dualism that bases on differentiating matters from spirit is the foundation that established cognitive system in the whole scientific world。 Because of curiosity, artists reexamine the early Dualism and find out surprisingly that, in Methodology, where Descartes differentiated matters and spirit, was not indeed matters and spirit, but Res Extensa and spirit。 Until the times of Leibniz, people were still using “Res Extensa”。

About Artist
